The 2010 series of the inaugural Sucrogen Townsville 400, dubbed the ‘Greatest Show on Wheels’ kicked off with a bang with thousands of people reported to have lined the streets of the city for the V8 Supercar Transporter Parade to welcome the V8 Supercar Championship Series to North Queensland.
Attendance rates for the event last year were in the mid tens of thousands, proving the event to be a great success. The three day event hosts both on-track and off-track entertainment to cater to all tastes with events ranging from concerts and joy flights to the highly anticipated V8 supercar street races.
The race itself takes place on a 2.87km track located just south of the CBD through Reid Park with the cars reaching speeds of an estimated 252km/h. The ever-growing number of attendees yearly is an indicator of the success of the event, but also calls for an increase in facilities for the events attendees – meaning a need for lots of shaded areas, food and beverage tents, stands, etc.
The Excel team played a key role in the success of the 2010 Sucrogen Townsville400 series by supplying all of the event hire equipment for Holden Racing Team Apparel for the three days.
“The Sucrogen Townsville 400 is a really big event in our racing calendar and as you can imagine we need marquees and other event equipment set up quickly for Holden Racing Team Apparel.” said Zupps Parts* Events Supervisor Emma Whitelaw.
“Excel Events got all the equipment up to Townsville and installed in double quick time and when the event was over everything was packed and taken away just as quickly. It has been a delight dealing with Glenn and the team at Excel Events and I would recommend them to any event organiser – they know what they’re doing and they do a great job.”

Kevin has been with Excel for nearly three months and, in his time here as an account manager, has been involved with projects small and large, including the Woodford Folk Festival, the Queensland Home Garden Show, and the upcoming Brisbane Indian Times Multicultural Festival.
Having started off in tourism and travel, working for major tourist destinations such as Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort and Qantas Island Resorts, Kevin worked his way into organising events and conferences, then into promotions, leading him to organising national events and working for the hire industry.
In his time off, Kevin loves surfing, snowboarding, and motorbike riding, and also enjoys going out to nice restaurants. Kevin’s sense of humour, organisation and experience will be a great asset to the team here at Excel.

It seems Australia can’t get enough of outdoor music events – an increase in the number of events annually and a rise in attendance across the board has led to much higher demand for equipment to cater to the requirements of large-scale events.
Excel have supplied event equipment to a number of recent major events: Creamfields Music Festival in Brisbane, the Queensland 2010 Home and Garden Expo in Nambour, the RACQ Motorfest (Brisbane), the Queensland Touch Football event in Caboolture, as well as the Sucrogen Townsville 400 profiled in our other item.

With records set for rainfall in August, Excel’s magnificent marquee kept patrons to Mercedes Fashion Week warm and dry. Whilst the weather watchers predicted more rain and gusty winds, Excel crews revisited the site to ensure that the marquee structures were still watertight and in place. This proved to be the case.
The marquee even figured in news coverage of the event, with Fashionista Events director Natalie D’Allessandro quoted in the Courier Mail (“South Bank Showing leaves its marquee”) saying that the marquee had been an impressive and fun venue for the runway shows. “I love the new venue. It’s set up so you could be anywhere in the world.” she said.

We have recently introduced glass doors and panels for our marquees*. Glass panels and doors make marquees look really smart and got the thumbs up at the Queensland Mining & Engineering Exhibition in Mackay last week.
Engineering group Sandvik used the marquees with glass panels and doors and Sandvik events manager Tony Starr was delighted with the new look.
“The glass panel on our marquees at the exhibition really made our site stand out – we were definitely the smartest looking marquee at the show! The great thing about the glass doors is that people outside the marquee can see the display inside – and are prompted to come in and have a look.”
Our other new arrivals are our new pagodas – ideal for many outdoor events and here showcased at the recent RACQ Motorfest in Brisbane.

Excel Events provided the temporary structures for sheltering the exhibitors at the RACQ Motorfest held at Eagle Farm on the 11th July. This was a great way to showcase our new 3m Pagodas that were installed in series for the Exhibitors from the South Burnett Region and the many service providers for RACQ. A variety of 6m and 3m structures were set up across the grounds of the racecourse for a entertainment, product promotion and food stalls.
